Devin Beckstead and Ray Rosdahl Memorial Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP AGREEMENT

BETWEEN the Soda Springs Education Foundation, an Idaho non-profit corporation, (hereinafter the “Foundation”) and the Principal of Soda Springs High School, or his successor, (hereinafter the “Principal”), who agree as follows:

1.  The Foundation agrees to make available to the Principal the sum of $250 or more per year to be used as a scholarship award to a member of the graduating class of Soda Springs High School.

2.  A committee is to be chosen to select the student to receive the award.  Its members are to include three representatives appointed by the President of the Foundation, and may include one representative from the Beckstead family, and one representative from the Rosdahl family.

3.  The committee is to meet to consider applicants for the scholarship award no later than two weeks before each years commencement exercises.  An award need not be in every year, but if deferred, may be given to two or more candidates in a subsequent year.

4.  The award is to be used to pay full-time tuition at an approved vocational school.  It is not to be paid to the student directly, but will be paid jointly to the student and the school upon registration by the student for the approved course work.  Equal payments of the money will be made for each term that the student is in attendance (i.e. $125 each semester).

5.  The selection committee shall consider the following criteria in the awarding of the scholarship:

            a.  Educational and vocational ambitions, as indicated by the candidate in an essay describing his or her future plans.

            b.  Extracurricular and community activities, including the extent to which the candidate has been of service to others and exhibited the qualities of leadership and citizenship.

            c.  Letters of recommendation from individuals in the community who are qualified to comment of the students past and potential service.

            d.  Verification that the candidate has held a part-time job while attending high school.

            e.  High school grades and ACT scores.  These are to be considered in the selection, but are not to be pivotal in the choice of the winner.  Special consideration will be given to those students between 2.0 and 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

            f.  An in-person interview, between the committee and the leading contenders for the award.

            g.  Financial need.

6.  If the committee choses, the award for a given year may be divided between two or more applicants who are equally deserving.

7.  The name of the award will be the DEVIN BECKSTEAD AND RAY ROSDAHL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.

8.  No action taken as a result of this agreement by either the Foundation or the Principal, or the committee to be formed hereunder, shall be influenced by any bias or prejudice on the account of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

9.  This agreement shall be effective for the school year 1988-89, and for ten school years thereafter, until the commencement exercises to be held in the spring of 1999: thereafter it may be terminated or renewed as the parties shall elect.

10.  If any local, state, or national law or regulation shall be passed or enforced upon the Foundation or the school administrators involved that would diminish the funds that actually assist the intended beneficiaries under this agreement, or tax the proceeds, or frustrate the intent of this agreement, then it may be voided upon request by either party hereto.

11.  The Principal agrees to use whatever means are reasonable and necessary to give ample exposure of the availability of this scholarship to all potential applicants, and to encourage anyone interested in it to apply.  The methods used to publish the details of the opportunity to the student body of Soda Springs High School are to be explained each year to the committee for their review and comment.
