Grays Lake Elementary, located 35 miles north of Soda Springs in
Wayan, Idaho, currently enrolls six students grades K-6. The
staff includes one certified teacher and one aide/custodian.
The school building is over 50-years old and has been remodeled
over the years to meet the students' needs. Until the early
1940's, the Grays Lake Valley offered high school classes up to
the tenth grade, as well as elementary school.
Major
events of the year include the traditional Christmas program
which has been a community event for many years. A spring
program has also been added.

As reading is prime to all other curriculum, we feel it
is important to adopt the mission statement: "EVERY
CHILD A READER."
We
have done much to try to ensure that this is true of all
our students:
 |
We are using the Accelerated Reading Program.
|
 |
We enjoy a silent sustained reading time during
the day.
|
 |
Teachers model reading daily.
|
 |
Students work with reading programs like the
Pizza Hut's "Book-It!" program.
|
 |
We work daily on phonics, comprehension, and
just good old practice.
|
 |
Books are rotated regularly from neighboring
libraries to compliment our growing supply. |
We
feel a great responsibility to contribute to our
student's success in education by making sure that every
child is indeed a reader.
